Profile Background

Dr. John Yam is an Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and a Singapore Ministry of Health-accredited Assisted Reproduction Specialist. He received his medical training from the National University of Singapore (NUS), & underwent postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology at the National University Hospital and KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Singapore.

Dr. Yam is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), & a fellow of the Academy of Medicine in Singapore. In 2013, he was awarded Fellowship of the RCOG. This conferment recognises continued contributions to the specialty & maintenance of standards in practice. It is a mark of senior status in the profession.

He was also previously an Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapore, Clinical Tutor at the Faculty of Medicine, NUS, Trainer for the yearly Regional MRCOG Part II examination course in Singapore, & examiner for the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Clinical Performance Examination.

Besides lecturing, Dr. Yam has published numerous articles in scientific journals and books. His scholarly contributions to the scientific literature span a range of subjects in the specialty: minimally invasive surgical techniques, intrapartum fetal surveillance, gestational diabetes, & the management of gynaecological emergencies. His research on intrapartum fetal surveillance has been cited in Williams Obstetrics, a premier medical text & vade mecum in the field.

Having managed thousands of pregnancies & deliveries to date, Dr. Yam takes joy in walking the journey with couples from conception to birth. Skilled in intrauterine insemination, induction of ovulation, controlled ovarian stimulation & in vitro fertilisation, he sees the pain & frustration couples experience in their quest to conceive. He is one of a few accredited Assisted Reproduction Specialists who also practises obstetrics. Dr. Yam has also developed expertise in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery, including single port laparoscopic surgery.

He has native fluency in English & Mandarin Chinese; and also speaks Bahasa Melayu, Hokkien Chinese & Japanese, having attained N2-level proficiency in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.
